DARLENE is a beautiful Bluetick Coonhound. When we took her from the Thomasville Animal Shelter last February she was emaciated, weighing only 40 pounds. Think that sounds bad? When first given up to the shelter she weighed only 25 pounds and had a broken leg. She is probably one of the luckiest dogs to come to Tallahassee Big Dog Rescue; after a large campaign to get enough donations to repair her leg (over $1,000 in vet bills and multiple surgeries!), she now weighs nearly 50 pounds and is ready to be adopted. (Note: Darlene was 45 pounds when these photos were taken.)
Darlene is a spayed female, maybe three years old. She has tested negative for heartworms and has been vaccinated, wormed and microchipped. She is regularly given heartworm preventative and a flea control product.
Despite being kept in a pen all her life (we suspect), she is a gentle soul who quickly learned the advantages of being an indoor-outdoor pet, and she has excellent house manners. She gets along with other dogs and cats, but she does like to run after horses and bay at them. She will need a kindly and active owner who will continue to train her to become an even better pet (come when called, walk better on a leash, etc.) and provide her with a safe, fenced area (yard or acreage).
Her adoption fee is $150.00. Please contact Lorraine (850/893-7634, 9:00 AM-9:00 PM only) for more information.
