TRIP
FIVE Section One:
This trip was partially our regular routine of stopping at
shelters and offering any supplies they may need, stopping
at distribution points and passing out pet food to people
driving through to collect water, food, and other supplies
from Red Cross, and other organizations. There was NO water
or power to the town of Waveland, and many people were
literally living in large boxes. Section Two of this
page was our becoming involved with a family in Waveland
Mississippi who experienced a horrible situation, and
especially with one of their horses called Skipper.

TRIP
FIVE Section Two:
Upon our arrival in Waveland, FEMA told us that people have
been asking for pet food for over a week. when they saw we
also brought two horse trailers and horse feed, they
informed us That
family and a local police officer who were neighbors about
12 miles down the road were cut off for two weeks as the
road was strewn with fallen trees. When the officer hadn't
reported for two weeks they bull dozed the obstructions for
two days to reach them. this all happened a few days prior
to our arrival. Skipper, the painted pony had one of his
hoofs chopped off during the storm by flying metal from a
trailer next door. The three other horses were able to chew
leaves off the trees, but skipper was to weak. When FEMA
mentioned their plight, we sent in a group with horse feed
and talked to the family about letting us bring the horse
back to Tallahassee to nurse back to health, and as soon as
his health had returned and his hoof hopefully grows back,
we would return him. Their daughter who was Skippers owner,
was in a panic, not knowing us from Adam, and feared she
would never see the horse again, so we drafted up a legal
document and signed it to help quell her fears.

Update Regarding Skipper -
12/01/05
Skipper is on the mend.
The outer rim is forming just fine, and the infection is
completely eliminated. The vet says he should fully recover
over time. He's also gaining weight. Big Dog Rescue thanks
you, SKIPPER most assuredly thanks you all for your help and
donations.
